Our People / Matt Slevin
Matt Slevin is an associate attorney with Cobalt LLP. His practice focuses on copyright and trademark litigation, prosecution and counseling, as well as privacy and advertising law.
Prior to joining Cobalt, Matt practiced in the San Francisco office of the international law firm DLA Piper, where he gained extensive experience in litigation matters involving copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition and related business torts, false advertising, and breach of contract, among other issues.
During law school, Matt was an extern for Judge Jeffrey S. White at the U.S. District Court and Judge Roger L. Efremsky at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, both in the Northern District of California. He served as the Executive Notes Editor of Hastings Law Journal, for which he authored “Risky Propositions: A New Standard for the Award of Attorney’s Fees Against Defendant-Intervenors in Voter Initiative Challenges,” 63 Hastings L.J. 867 (2012). Matt received the CALI and Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence in Trademark and Unfair Competition law.
Matt is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of California. He is also a member of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A.
Before starting his legal career, Matt worked for several years in New York City as an editor for film and television. Matt is a musician and performs regularly around the Bay Area. For three years running, Matt has been a member of the first-place act at Law Rocks, an annual all-lawyer battle-of-the-bands fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations.
